Ol' Carl

Here's the link . Forgive my indulgence on this one - I've kinda resolved that I want to beat every idea to death, by which I just mean actually finish things and if they suck after a good try, then they suck.  Too much of the time I don't get to the end partly because if I never finish I never have to admit the thing sucked.  No more!  Permission to make a piece of bad art granted.   For a long time I had very mixed feelings about Carl.  I really like to play the chord progression on acoustic and the sort of weird timing - there's like a 2/4 measure in there or something (Chris?) - gives it a little intrigue.  I think the staccato bass line in the chorus is quite fun.  But yeah, there's something a little cheesy in it.  So I didn't touch this one for at least a year.   Then last week I said fuck it I'm finishing that bitch.  It's been fun to start from scratch with it and that mellotron really opened it up for me. and it still nee...

Here's the link . I want this one to have a foggy kind of quality like the narrator thinks he's seeing things clearly but something's off and getting worse.  I tried to accomplish that through the flange on the guitar and chorus on the bass.  If there are other instruments we could introduce to enhance that feeling, I'd love it. Drums need a thorough look.  Backing vox would be great in the verse, but I think crucial in the chorus.   It's a pretty tight little song - I'd be open to suggestions on if a bridge or other structural element might help. Lyrics Just me and the frogs enjoying the air outside We're nodding along before I take a dive Maybe too long, maybe it's been all night They're letting me go knowing I'd be alright Remember walking down a real thin line Not trying to hear about the ravages of time Not even sure what came out of me Even still several women fussing over me I need to call letting her know I'm gone Think I did before ...

Here's the link . This one started with a groovy little BD Latuli guitar progression. That's his original guitar in this track.  My concept on this one is sort of three parts which are pretty obvious when you listen: 1. Verses are pretty straight, I wanted the vocals to come across with just a hint of like a modern Dire Straits Romeo & Juliet. 2. A scabbed up gnarly bridge  3. A pretty outro that should feel like a mixture of realization/regret/shame. Drums are in there just as something to play along with - needs a complete re-think from the drum-minded in our midst. It's somewhat disjointed feeling in its current state, could use some connective tissue particularly in the use of drum changes/fills to help transition from section to section and maybe some underlying element (second guitar, some kind of pad/synth) at least in the verses that can give it some forward motion.  I really want to hear another voice (Josh) in the outro singing something like a 3rd in betwee...

NR7 Simple acoustic progression G, Am, D7, G G, C, Am7, D7, G.... Capo on 2 so shapes are: F, Gm, C7, F F, A#, Gm7, C7, F NR11 Some cool chords in here First one is on the A,D,G,B strings - 12,10,0,12 Second one is a C played as a barre chord on the 8th fret Third is a C shape, but slid up two frets so it's some kind of D Fourth is again on ADGB as 7,x,7,8 Then it moves to some three note chords on A,D,G - 12,10,0 then 10,9,0 then 9,7,0 then 7,5,0 NR2 Maybe the middle part is worth something? Capo on 3 For that middle part, it's 10 on the A and 11 on the B, pulled off to 10, then a C shape so you're on the 6 on the B string, then I think a C7 shape?

NR5   Here's an alternate version of the song Josh and I were working up.   I've slowed it down, added effects, and messed around with sort of an extended part at the end.   Chords: Cm Fm G Fm     A# G7 Cm   Fm G G#     A# G7 G#       A# Cm Fm A# G7 G#     A#       Cm G# A#7   NR6 Real simple I, II, IV, I progression - A, Bsus2, D, A Capo on 2, so shapes are G, Asus2, C, G NR4 Playing the eBG strings only, this is D#m, B, C#, A# NR3 A little lick starting on the A string 12--15 and based on the 12th fret  NR2 Perhaps a bit sad , but I think it's got some richness to it that I like G, F# in the root with a Dm shape on the B (3) and G (2) sliding to 4 on the G, Em, D (slide to 5 on the B at the end)
