Ol' Carl

 Here's the link.

Forgive my indulgence on this one - I've kinda resolved that I want to beat every idea to death, by which I just mean actually finish things and if they suck after a good try, then they suck.  Too much of the time I don't get to the end partly because if I never finish I never have to admit the thing sucked.  No more!  Permission to make a piece of bad art granted.

For a long time I had very mixed feelings about Carl.  I really like to play the chord progression on acoustic and the sort of weird timing - there's like a 2/4 measure in there or something (Chris?) - gives it a little intrigue.  I think the staccato bass line in the chorus is quite fun.  But yeah, there's something a little cheesy in it.  So I didn't touch this one for at least a year.

Then last week I said fuck it I'm finishing that bitch.  It's been fun to start from scratch with it and that mellotron really opened it up for me. and it still needs lots of work - drums are as always just placeholder and shades of ideas for transitions.  The bridge after the second chorus is just studs.

Anyhow, I think this song might have a future after this reboot.  But it does still needs lot of help.

Drums, backing vox, ideas for instrumentation in that bridge (and anywhere else for that matter).  Should we put another chorus after the bridge?

Walked on it then everyone started

You saw a damn fine job when I had my moment

Wood bowing I hopped on off it

Can I catch a little grace for the soon departed

Carl at the end of his line

Got a sinking feeling and he don't know why

Someone gonna figure it out

Bet I see you solve this right before I die

Follow to the blue wide open

No one can touch us here when it's invite only

You're a blood sucker or wounded orphan

Let me ride out years hearing Josh on organ

Carl at the end of his line

Feeling so superior ain't gonna lie

Someone gonna figure it out

Bet I see you solve this right before I die

Can you blame me if I thought you were lyin?

Think about your attitude

When you asked me for the extra mile

Long ago you set to inter me in a barrel of oil

Felt  like you were driving me to whatever was the corner opposite from you
